Green Pool Cleanup FAQs
What to expect from a green pool cleanup, from light algae to swamp recovery
It depends on how bad the pool has gotten. A lighter green pool usually clears up in 1 to 2 days. A typical heavy green pool takes 3 to 5 days. A black or swamp-style pool can take 5 to 10 days because the algae is deeper, the debris load is heavier, and the filter has to run through several full cycles. We give you a realistic timeline after the first visit so you know what to expect.
The price is mostly driven by how much chemical we have to add, how many visits and labor hours it takes, and how hard the filter has to work. A light algae bloom needs one shock treatment and basic brushing. A swamp pool needs aggressive shock treatments over multiple days, daily brushing, heavy vacuuming, and often a filter cleaning at the end. We quote the range up front so there are no surprises.
In almost every case, yes, we can save your pool without draining. Draining a pool is expensive, can damage the plaster if done incorrectly, and is rarely needed. The only times we recommend it are for severe staining, very high stabilizer levels, or extreme calcium buildup. For green and even black pools, our chemical and filtration process can usually get the water clear without a drain.
Most of the time, yes. Heavy algae and debris will load up your filter quickly. For dark green and swamp pools, a filter cleaning is almost always needed at the end of the cleanup so the system runs efficiently going forward. We can quote and handle the filter cleaning as part of the same visit.
No. The water is unsafe during the cleanup because of high chlorine shock levels and the algae load. We’ll tell you the day the pool is officially swim-ready, which is when the chemistry has settled back into safe ranges and the water is clear.
Yes, and we strongly recommend it. The single biggest reason pools turn green in the first place is inconsistent weekly maintenance and chemistry. Getting on a regular service plan after a cleanup is the best way to make sure you never need another one.
